In the last 12 months I've run up mountain roads, along sandy beaches and, this week, on the snow. When the sun's out and the track is hard (but not icy) it's a joy to jog along the groomed track with the dogs.

Being out in the mountains for the winter, it's good to mix it up a bit, exercise wise so not everyday is a ski day. Doing 10k on the groomed tracks makes a change from ski touring or cruising the pistes. Normally I stick to the walking route but just for the photo sneaked onto the perfectly groomed cross coutnry track.

I have another reason for swapping skis for trainers - a trail race on the horizon. Held here in Serre Chevalier, it's a 10k circuit that includes around 500m uphill. But it's a case of watching the weather before entering because if it's a snow day next Sunday, I'd choose powder skiing over wallowing and slipping up and downhill in the new snow.
